We are thrilled to announce that the trattoria “A Locanda Tu Marchese” is supporting the FAI Days of 22 and 23 March 2025 (FAI, which stands for “Fondo Ambiente Italiano”, is an Italian non-profit organisation founded in 1975 with the aim of protecting and enhancing Italy’s cultural and natural heritage. FAI is responsible for preserving historical, artistic and landscape assets, while also promoting public awareness of heritage protection), an unmissable event celebrating the beauty and culture of our charming village of Matino. During these two days, you will have the opportunity to explore the historic ‘strittuledde’, the narrow, winding streets that weave like a fishing net, leading you to the fascinating courtyards and courtyards that tell the story of life in the past.
Matino is a place where art and culture come together, with panoramic terraces offering spectacular sunsets over the sea of Gallipoli. Don’t miss the Palazzo Marchesale, a neoclassical jewel with Baroque influences, and the Chiesa Madre dedicated to St George. The Arco della Pietà, with its elegant cross vault, will welcome you to the heart of the village, while the scattered votive shrines testify to the deep devotion of our community.
Beneath the surface, our past is revealed with an underground city full of cellars, animal shelters and oil mills, tangible signs of the ancient tradition of olive oil production. During the FAI Days, you will discover a priceless treasure that makes Matino a place of art, culture and wonder.
